Public safety
The reason governments were invented and the most important objective of any government should be public safety. We get our governments so involved in other programs that they lose sight of public safety as their primary objective. If we are not safe everything else is not important.
Concern for public safety in Omaha right now means two things. First we must stop accepting the crime in north and south Omaha and insist that the police concentrate on it with all their resources. Second we must insure that the police and fire employees are compenstated fairly, but not with the excesses that we have seen in pensions and health care. There must be a balance between pay for these critical jobs and what the public can afford.
Job number one must be public safety!
